Blizzards have now officially released the “Winter Wonderland” update/event for Overwatch.
That new Winter Loot Boxes will include more than 100 new cosmetic items. They consist of profile icons, sprays, victory poses, and holiday-themed skin. The update also has the winter event: Mei’s Snowball Offensive, a 6-on-6 single-elimination snowball fight.
“Mei’s Endothermic Blaster no longer unleashes a stream of frost or shoots icicles. Instead, it’s been modified to fire a single, super-powered snowball,” Blizzard explained in the Winter Wonderland update announcement. “Taking down an enemy only takes one hit, but a miss can be costly. Once your weapon is empty, your enemies will have the advantage as you search for the nearest snow pile to reload, so don’t forget to cover your retreat with ice walls and cryo-freeze to block their attacks—and when the battle starts to heat up, you can activate Mei’s Ultimate, which turns her blaster into a semi-automatic snowball launcher, allowing you to fire continuously as your enemies scatter.”
“Winter Wonderland” also includes the long-awaited Symmetra overhaul, which gives her a new ability: a projected Photon Barrier and a second ultimate ability: Shield Generator.
Zarya also received a slight balance change which was actually a form of a bug, where abilities that deal piercing damage such as Reinhardt’s “Fire Strike” and Genji’s “Dragonblade” no longer deal damage to the barrier twice. This means her barriers will last longer through such attacks, but she’ll generate less charge. However, the update does not include the new Control map Oasis. It’s speculated that it will be released after the event ends on January 2th, 2017.
